VIETNAM - 3W; OM2DX is now working for the Embassy of the Slovak Republic
in Hanoi, Vietnam for the next three years. On 5 January he got his
licence, and he will operate as XV9DX and 3W1M on all bands CW, SSB
and digital modes. QSL via OM3JW.

- 18/1         INDONESIA; YB3MM/9 OC-150
               from Nanggu Island. He will operate holiday style,
               concentrating on 17 metres CW and RTTY. His operating
               times will also depend on the local electric supply.

               from Koror Island by JA6EGL (T88SM), JA6UBY (T88CP),

               from Chergui Island, Kerkennah, by a large group of
               operators. They will be active on all bands and modes with
               six stations active on 160-10 metres CW, SSB, FM and digital
               modes (RTTY, PSK31, BPSK, SSTV), with special attention to
               be paid to 160 and 80 metres. The antenna farm will consist
               of verticals and wires for the low bands and Spiderbeams

               by ON6QR from the Algerian Radio Amateurs Association’s
               club station, 7X2ARA, from 20 UTC on 17 January until
               the early morning of the 18th. He will operate both CW

               by JE2EHP. Activity will be on all HF bands and 6 m,

               from Cedar Keys from around 22 UTC on 17 January to around
               17 UTC on the 20th. Holiday style operating will be mostly
               CW and RTTY on 80-17 metres with 100 watts and wires.

               The District of Columbia Amateur Radio Society (NW3DC)
               will be active in honour of the inauguration of the
               44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
               Main activity is expected to be on 20 and 40 metres.

               Chilean operators will activate special event station.
               Operations will be on all bands using CW, SSB and PSK.

               YL operators will be active, using VP8YLx callsigns, with
               the third character goimg from A to J of the suffix
               assigned to each lady at the event start. So far there are
               10 YL’s registered for this event: LA6RHA-Unni (VP8YLD),
               JR3MVF-Mio (VP8YLF), WA6UVF-Jeanie (VP8YLA), MØACL-Liz
               (VP8YLB), M5YLO-Nicky (VP8YLE), SV2KBS-Victoria (VP8YLG),

               All radio amateurs in Canada are welcome to use the
               following special event prefixes. Activity is to
               commemorate Galileo’s first use of an optical telescope
               and the subsequent discoveries he made in his lifetime.
               Look for radio amateurs in Canada to use the following
               prefixes:
               VA stations will use the prefix CF
               VE stations will use the prefix CG
               VO stations will use the prefix CH
               VY stations will use the prefix CI
               VE9NC will be activating the special event prefix callsign
               CG9NC. He will be active mainly on 20 meters on the digital

               He operates SSB and RTTY on 10, 15, 20, 40 and 80 metres,

               by JA8VE. He had to leave Bhutan on September 3rd due to

               from Diego Garcia by ND9M. He is active as VQ98JC through
               the end of the year, after that he will use VQ9JC. Expect
               him to be QRV in his spare time, typically on 12-16.30 UTC
               (from Sunday to Thursday) and on 12-17.30 UTC (Fridays and
               Saturdays). Occasional overnight operating will allow him

- 1/4          DOMINICA; J79BXI NA-101
               by SMØXBI. He will operate SSB only. QSL via home call,
               bureau preferred. He will be visited by SMØDDK (J79DDK)
               and SMØDWK (J79DWK) January 21 to February 3, operating
               CW and SSB. QSL via bureau to homecall.

- 28/4         SOLOMON ISLANDS; H44MS
               by DL2GAC. He also hopes to be QRV from Temotu Province
               (H4Ø) for 2-3 weeks during the first half of March. He
               plans to operate SSB as H44MS with a focus on 80 and 40
               metres. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. DK9FN (CW
               operator) and DL2NUD (EME operator) will join DL2GAC
               (H44MS) in late February for a 2-3 week operation from
               Temotu Province. DK9FN will go back home on 16 March.
               He plans to operate CW only on 160-6 metres, hopefully
               as H4ØFN (the callsign he used back in 1999). Whatever
               callsign he will be using, the QSL route is via HA8FW
               (bureau  preferred).

- May          UGANDA; 5X4X
               from Arua by DL8SBQ. He runs 100 watts into a spiderbeam
               for 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 metres and a Zepp antenna for
               40 metres. He has been pirated on 160, 80 and 40 metres
               - if you worked him during the evening hours, please note
               that Peter cannot operate after 20 UTC, because the power

               mainly on PSK31 with some SSB during good propagation

               by F4DYW says he will be working at Alfred Faure Base on
               Ile de la Possesson. He plans to operate on 20, 15 and 40
               metres SSB during his spare time, using 100 watts and

               has received approval from the local authorities to while
               in Lebanon, for one year starting on 16 November.

               by EA4ATI to work in Kuala Lumpur for the whole year 2009.
               He will work with 400 watts and a vertical in CW and SSB
               on 40 m/20 m/15 m/10 m. He also plans to take part in all
               major contests (if possible from stations better equipped).

               by DJ4KW (V31YN) and DK9GG (V31GW) will be active from
               Belize to early March, including a number of contests.
               From 26 February to 3 March, look for V31YN/P to be active

               from Honshu Island (main island). QSL via JA1JCF.

20/1 - 12/2    THAILAND; HSØZGQ
               by DL1MJF. He will spend one week on Koh Samui (AS-101)
               during that time frame. Look for HSØZGQ/2 to operate
               CW and SSB on 40-10 metres with 100 watts into a dipole.

21/1 - 27/1    DOMINICAN REPUBLIC; HI9/EA3BT and HI9/EA3WL NA-122
               from Cayo Levantado. They plan to operate mainly SSB and
               digital modes on 10-80 metres, with an amplifier, a beam
               for 10-20 metres and a vertical for 40 and 80 metres.

21/1 - 28/1    SAN ANDRES/PROVIDENCIA; 5KØCW NA-033
               San Andres by WF5W, K5UO and HK3CW, including an entry
               in the CQ WW 160-Meter DX CW Contest. After the 160 m
               event they should be on other bands (CW and maybe RTTY)

22/1 - 26/1    URUGUAY; CV5A SA-030
               from Flores Island by a large group of operators. They plan
               to operate on various bands and modes, with monoband beam
               antennas and a station dedicated to RTTY and PSK31.

               by OZ8KR, activity will be on 40-10 meters SSB using
               a FT-857 and wire antennas. His QTH will be Bakuto on
               the Atlantic Ocean. QSL via his home callsign OZ8KR.

24/1 - 1/2     AUSTRALIA; VI2BV9Ø
               The special callsign will be in use to celebrate Waverley’s
               90th anniversary. Look for their club station to be on the
               air from 0000z, January 24th, until 2400z, February 1st
               (2009). The operating schedule is currently being discussed,
               and once it is finalized, it will be updated on the club’s

25/1 - 13/2    SIERRA LEONE; 9L1X AF-056
               from Sherbro Island. The team, I2YSB, IK2CIO, IK2CKR,
               IK2DIA and IK2HKT, expects to have three stations active
               on CW (28025, 24895, 21025, 18080, 14025, 10105, 7005,
               3505 and 1823 kHz), SSB (28450, 24925, 21295, 18130,
               14260, 7050, 3795 and 1840 kHz), and  RTTY (14082 kHz).

               from Santa Maria Island’s. The operators mentioned are

               and CA6UTF. Activity will be on 80/40/20/15/10 meters

ca 28/1 - 28/2 WALLIS & FUTUNA IS.; FW5RE OC-054
               from Wallis Island by HA9RE and a team of operators. The
               group is expected to arrive on the island January 26th.
               Activity will be on 160-10 meters, including 30/17/12
               meters, using CW, SSB and RTTY. Two stations will
               be on the air. Antennas to be used are: a 24 m vertical
               on 160/80/40 m, Spiderbeam for 20/17/15/10 m,
               HB9CV for 20-15 m and a 7-band Butternut.

               transceiver, a linear TY900, a 18 m Lowband Vertical,

               New world wide HF contest organised by Radio Club Slovenj
               Gradec. The contest is dedicated to a noble idea of Peace

12/2 - 15/2    TURKS & CAICOS; VP5/KX7YT and VP5/N1KEZ NA-022
               from Providenciales Island. Activity will include an entry
               in the CQ WW RTTY Contest (February 14-15th).

12/2 - 24/2    USA; WA2USA/4 NA-112
               from Bogue Banks. Activity will be 160-10 meters using
               CW, SSB and RTTY. He will also participate in the
               ARRL CW DX and CQ WPX RTTY Contests. QSL via his home

12/2 - 26/2    DESECHEO I.; KP5
               The Caribbean National Wildlife Refuge Complex has selected
               and announced a team co-led by Dr. Glenn Johnson, WØGJ and
               Bob Allphin, K4UEE. Their plan involves a team of fifteen
               operators and 6-8 stations 160-6 meter for a 14-day
               operation. They will bring several tons of equipment to
               the island including a change of operators on Feb 19.

14/2 - 21/2    TONGA; A35HA OC-049
               from Tongatapu Island by CX3AN. He will operate holiday
               style on 40-6 metres CW and SSB, with an emphasis on 30
               and 17 metres, running 100 watts into dipoles.

17/2 - 24/2    NICARAGUA; YN2 or H7/hc
               by AC8W, K8DD, KB8TXZ and N8LJ, ARRL DX CW Contest
               included. They will put an emphasis on 160, 80, 30, 17 and
               12 metres. They will operate as either H7/homecall or with
               YN2 calls.

17/2 - 2/3     TUVALU; T2 OC-015
               by N7OU and W7YAQ, their callsigns still have to be
               confirmed. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, mainly CW,
               with some SSB and RTTY. They plan to be an entry in the
               ARRL DX CW Contest. QSL via their home callsigns, direct
               or by the Bureau.

19/2 - 24/2    VIRGIN IS.; KP2/K3MD
               from St.John’s. His activity will include the ARRL DX CW
               Contest (February 21-22nd) as Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power
               entry. He will be using an IC-7000 (w/ALS-500M/PS-75) into
               an all band 80-10 m trap dipole up 50 feet and a 160 meter
               inverted L. Outside of contest he will operate casually,
               usually working Europe on 20 and 40 meters. QSL via K3MD.

22/2 - 6/3     SEYCHELLES; S79JF AF-024
               from Praslin Island by DL7JAN. Activity will be on
               40-10 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and possibly PSK31.

25/2 - 7/3     MONTSERRAT; VP2
               by W1USN, W1SSR and AA1M. They plan to operate CW, SSB
               and PSK31. Their callsigns have not been assigned as of
               this date. They are looking to get VP2MPR (W1USN) and
               VP2MPL (AA1M), if not, VP2M/homecall. QSL via their CBA.

26/2 - 5/3     MAYOTTE; FH/G3SWH and FH/G3RWL AF-027
               their activity will be mainly on 80-10 metres CW. Subject
               to QRN and site conditions, there may be some 160 m CW
               activity, and some RTTY and/or PSK31. They plan to have
               two stations on the air for as many hours every day as

1/3 - 7/3      BAHAMAS; W6DXO/C6A NA-001
               from South Andros Island. Activity will be holiday style

               from Marigot Bay. Activity will be on 160-6 meters SSB
               using dipoles and 6 m yagi. Also, look for activity in
               the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 7-8th, 2009).

1/3 - 14/3     EAST MALAYSIA; 9M6 AS-051
               Due to a combination of personal and logistical reasons
               unfortunately it has been necessary to postpone the
               proposed March 2009 Spratly Island DXpedition. It is hoped
               that the DXpedition will go ahead at a later date.

               from Miquelon. Activity will be on 80-6 meters using CW,

               Low-Power entry. Antennas will be a N1IW off-centered

               from Rarotonga (from grid BG08dr) for 6 m/2 m EME operation

1/4 - 11/4     NETHERLANDS ANTILLES; PJ2/PA4JJ SA-006
               from Curacao for a holiday style operation. He will try
               to be active on as many bands as he can, except 160 m.
               He will be on all modes but mostly digital. His equipment

               by ZL1CT. His 5-week expedition aims to give as many
               stations as possible their first QSO with ZK2. Resources
               are limited, and he will operate mainly on 80, 40, 20 and
               15 metres CW and SSB, with some activity on 30, 17 and
               12 metres and some RTTY. QSL via N3SL. A log-search will

               to update it as often as possible.

               from Kuredu Island by G0VJG. This will be a limited
               operation because Nobby will be on his honeymoon (and
               he thanks his wife for putting up with him and the QRM).

               from Caye Caulker by W6WTG (V31UR) and N2OWL (V31WL).
               Expect activity on the HF bands and 6 metres, and look
               for V31UR to participate in the IOTA Contest (25-26 July).

29/7 - 12/8    LESOTHO; 7P
               K5LBU is once again making plans for another African trip,
               this time to Lesotho.

30/8-July 2011 FRENCH POLYNESIA; FO
               by F5PHW. Since he is there for work, his on air activities
               will be limited, but he will try to operate as much as
               possible. If he lives in a house, Phil intends to be active
               on all HF bands from 80-10 meters mainly on CW and RTTY
               (possibly some PSK31) with very little SSB using only
               100 watts. His antennas from the house QTH will be:
               80-40 m - Inverted V + HF6VX (GP), 30 m - HF6VX,
               20-10 m - HF6VX + Spiderbeam (not sure). However, if he
               lives in an apartment the antenna may only be the HF6VX.
               QSL via F8BPN, by the Bureau or direct.
