This year we were fortunate to have good conditions for our second Sprint contest, and the format attracted good participation from stations around the world. Entries were up slightly, and scores were generally showing an increase of around 25% over the 1998 contest. Nick UTØI won the expert class in style with a total of 1021 valid QSOs, an average rate of 42.5 contacts per hour for the 24 hour period. Good contest software helps greatly when running contacts at this speed, but only good operating skills and knowledge of HF radio will find this many contacts through the entire contest period. The single op class was very hard fought at the top with Don AA5AU just coming out the winner. The top 3 stations all had around 600 QSOs; just 4 extra multipliers would have changed a 3rd place into a win. It was nice to see two British stations in the top ten; maybe next year they could get organised and win in multi-op! The lads at the LY1BZB club station took the honours easily this time; well done. Jean-Jacques ONL383 took the SWL win, and has won every BARTG contest since I have been adjudicating. How about some serious opposition for J-J next year; after all it must be so easy just to listen and write them down!! Congratulations to all of you, and thanks to everyone who took part, commented on the contest, or sent in a check log. The standard of logs was much better this year, with only a few needing re-scoring, for which I am very grateful! See you in the next one. John Barber GW4SKA
Pat VA7CC: Had a great time during this years contest. A solar disturbance arrived late on Saturday afternoon .. however I had a great time. Tom WA8RPK: Very good contest, got in about 14hrs and beat last years score. I hope all have as good a time as I do in these contests. Tnx to all who worked me. Wayne K7WM: Propagation was very strange here in Arizona this year. Still like the format. Tapani OH2LU: Thanks for another BARTG RTTY Sprint. For once it was possible to run DX on all three high bands. Ken GØPCA: Looking at wrong clock (British Summer Time) I started 1 hour early, worked YV, N2, DL GM and EI before realising mistake. Reset everything and never heard YV again! Ho hum there is always next time. Jose CT1AOZ: Too busy (family and work at home). A nice contest with good participation. Will try next year. Ben AC5SU: Family and employer keep reminding me that this is only a hobby (hihi); hope to work everyone next year. Vlado 9A3CY: Very busy this weekend, but for sure see you all in BARTG RTTY 2000. |
