Another SAC test from JW where the Aurora blocked us totally. Aurora index was up to 10 at max. After an acceptable start on 20 m the conds dissapeared. 577 contacts on 20 m and only one on 40 m. Nil on other bands. |

Poor conditions, I had an idea to work 21 MHz, but the PA broke when tuning before contest :-( Changed to all band and with 100 W its not so easy. Also changed to Multi so that my son Lauri, OH2GTY could have some "practice" for test operation. |

I do not have competitive antennas for 80 m or 40 m at my home QTH and therefore I decided to go for 20 m single band instead of being QRT completely. A smart decision after seeing what happened to conditions on Saturday evening :-)
I have to confess that I had a bit contradictory feelings after the contest. The first 12 hours were just fun giving more than 1000 Qs whereas the second 12 hours was just a struggle in poor conditions and being able to make less than 250 Qs.
The magnetic storm that hit earth on Saturday evening local time did boost the propagation to North America for some time but eventually it caused all bands to die out completely. It took until 06:30 UTC before 20 m opened again on Sunday morning.
Thanks to Lady Auroras trick I have more than 500 North Americans in my log. A quick analysis shows that 101 of them gave me 001 as a serial number and 67 gave 002 - that clearly shows the propagation was in favour of a small number of stations in Northern Finland, Sweden and Norway. Finally some benefits in living at high latitudes...

Der blev desværre kun tid til lidt spredt fægtning på 40 m i år, med en beam der sad fast i retning mod England/Nordamerika, hvilket betyd at jeg fik en overvældende mængde 001 rapporter fra UK stationer, og ikke så meget andet... Der var ikke stor DX aktivitet pe 40 m. |
