COMMENTS
This weekend I didn't have a lot of time to spend on the
contest but it was fun to be on the air. Before I left for
my contest-QTH SM3JLA warned about high A-index. And
indeed the condx was very unusual.
I started with 28 MHz to pick up som multipliers.
It started with 4X, 5R8, PY, UR, SV9, CT, YL, YV, LU, SP,
EA. If only there was more stations QRV in SA and AF there
would be a lot more activity on 28 MHz. I was too long on
28, Went to 21 for a while but couldn't get the rate
coming. Then went to 14 to get some more action. Now the
rate went up for almost an hour. While I was contesting
the family had dinner. My xyl was kind to bring dinner to
the shack. But to eat and calling CQ at the same time was
not easy. It took more than two hours to finish
the meal :-). I still don't have any DVK... so I promised
myself to have one next year :-)
At midnight (22Z) my XYL came into to the shack to get some
sleep. Yes the shack is also a bedroom :-) She thought she
could sleep while I was working contest. I didn't believe
her that so I also went to sleep at midnight. Went up again
at 6Z. Couldn't get a good run until around 9Z on 14 MHz.
Due to other family activities I pulled the switch at
1130Z. Still I hadn't worked any US-station!!! Something
must have been wrong in my operation because SM0GNU told
me that he had worked about 100 US on 20 during the last
night from SK3GW.
Anyway had great fun and I'm looking forward to next
years contest!
